The Rifle Team.

A good team of marksmen has been selected by Colonel Collins to repie- j sent New Zealand at the 'international contest which is to take place in Australia in October next. It will le remembered that the Motherland is ! sending out a strong team for the i same meeting, for which some special ' matches for visitors have been arran- , ged. New Zealand's team is repre- I sentative t,i the whole colony, and it ! is satisfactory to find that such a high level of marksmen could be found to make the trip. There are three champions in the Ballinger brothers and Milroy; Duncan, the West Coaster, was runner-up last year to Arthur Ballinger for the coveted belt; Purnell is a consistent veteran ; Cuftit>rtm, Craw, Ayson and WilHo were all the openers of surprise packets at the Trentham national meeting m March last ; whilst Mills, Moslem and Masefield are young shots of whom more will be heard in the future. Jn W. H. and A. Ballinger we have two of the most remarkable riflemen iu the world. They have been shooting longer andf more consistently than any other two men in the rifle world to-day, both had twice won the champion belt previous to this year's meeting, on one occasion they were win- ! ner and runner-up respectively, one cr other of them has heea to Bisley with each of the colony's teams, and last year Arthur Ballinger, by winning the championship for the third ' time, became the permanent owner cf the belt. He ger.erously gave ihe historic trophy baci to the Association. We feel sure New Zealand' « team of riflemen will give a good ac- ■ count of itself on the ranges of Australia. ,
