Under the amended tariff resolutions the following alterations are made: — Imported confectionery has reverted to the rates charged prior to the j original tariff, brought down last i month. Flaked maize has been altered from 2s to Is a bushel. Surgeon's, physician's, dentist's and optician's instruments, on which it was proposed to put a 20 per cent, duty have been placed on the free list. Raw cotton is also placed on the free list, and the new duty on cotton goods does not come into force until 31st December. The amended duties on boots, shoes, clogs and patterns n.o.e. are men's above size No. 5 Is 6d a pair and 15 per cent, ad valorem, No. 1 Is a pair and 15 per cent., boys' No. 7 to 1 6d a pair and similar ad valorem, women's above si2© No. 1 Is and 15s per cent., girls' No. 7 to 1 15 per cent. Slippers if felt with felt soles and shoes and goloshes known as' Plimsolls with moulded India rubber soles .22$ per cent. Printing inks remain free and are placed on the preferential tariff.
