AUCKLAND AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS. [PBB PBBSS A-SOOIATTON.J Auckland, Julv 22. The Auckland provincial amateur championships opened here this evening in the presence of a large attendance. The sport provided was good, being the best seen here for some time. The Northern Boxing Association are conducting the contests. The initial contests resulted as follows: — Bantam Weights.— W. Butland (8.2.) defeated J. Ward (8.4)., J. Montague (8.1) defeated W. Gibson (8.2). Feather Weights.— W. Hogan (8.13) defeated E. D. Bartley (8.8). Light Weights.— J. Dean (9.10) defeated W. J. Webb (9.13). Middle Weights.— W. Millen (10.12) defeated R. McCoy (11.0.). Heavy Weights.— -J. R. Hunter (13.3) defeated E. Thornton (12.7). T. Lewis (10.10) and H. McNeill (12.0) put up the best contest of the evening, ana a fourth round had to be fought, Lewis being awarded the fight.
