lhe usual weekly meeting of the Feilding Debating Society was held at the Council Chambors last night. Key. G. Budd (vice-president) occupied the chair, and the attendance .was very good. Contributions to the Manuscript Journal were read and discussed. The articles read dealt with State Social- ' ism. Chinese storekeepers, the education of the sexes, international arbitiation, roads, and a forecast -of the Governor's Speech at the opening of the New Zealand Parliament. 1 lhe Chinese storekeeper question I was discussed with great animation, 1 and some interesting remarks Were < made on the education of girls. Arbitration . was also ably dealt with the speeches being of considerable interest. The f oreoast of the Gover- j nor's Speech was of a humorous na- \ ture, very well written, and provided i matter for a good hearty laugh. < The meeting was one of the most successful the Society have had. . For the nesting next Tuesday evening, impromptu Fj-eeohee will be the order, and on the following Tues- 1 day (July 2) a debate will take place ( on the question — "That the Arbitra- ' tion Court be abolished."
