Tardy Justice.
It is satisfactory to know that our protest against tho dismissal of Mr J, B. Mclntyre, engine-driver on the Manawatu County Council's tramway, because he asked for payment for overtime, has resulted in the Council reversing their decision and reinstating Mr Mclntyre in his position. At the previous meeting, Cr. Barber was the only member who raised a protest against the dismissal, the motion to follow that course having lc-en proposed by Cr. McKenzie, seconded by Cr. Masters, and supported by the Chairman. At yesterday's meeting Crs. Dalton and Masters said it was the man's own fault (for daring to ask for overtime payment) that In had been discharged at a month's notice, but he had promised rot to so offend again. Cr. Barber pertinently pointed out that he could not see the man was to blame for asking for overtime, considering that employers had been heavily fined at Palmerston by the Arbitration Court for not paying overtime. It is about time the Manawatu County Councillors understood that they are trustees for tho residents of the County, and should exercise ordinary care in sceiiif? that thav do lint nernetrsita
