RONGOTEA NOTES.

(Our Own Correspondent.) A very pleasant evening was spent on Monday night by the residents of Rongotea, oh the occasion of a farewell social tendered to Mr Lawrence, who has, for the last three years,, been connected with the Rongotea Co-operative Dairy Co. The social took place in the Primitive* Methodist Church, over 60 friends being present. The Rev. Mr Device presided, and in an appreciative manner eulogised Mr Lawrence's efforts in endeavouring to promote the webfare of Rongotea, inasmuch as he rhad been an thusiastic member of the choir and the Christian Endeavour Society, and a very able worker in the N. Z. Temperance League. He (Rev. Davice) considered that too much praise could not be tendered . to Mr Lawrence for his untiring efforts in the directions he had spoken of. Mr J. Glover, Senr., Mr Broad* belt, and Mr J. Tobeck also spoke, and heartily endorsed the sentiments expressed by the rev. gentleman. During the evening the following programme was rendered: — A musical item by the orchestra; Song, "Too Late," Miss Braybyn; duet, Miss - Trask and Mr Tobeck ; and a second duet by Miss Trask and Mr Lawrence. Parlor games were played, and caused much diversion, after which the Rev. Davice, complimenting Mr - Lawrence on his approaching mar- N riage, on behalf of the Rongotea friends, presented him with a silver teapot and a set of razors, to which Mr Lawrence in very feeling terms responded. Mr Lawrence left on Tuesday en route for Kaitangata, where he intends to pursue farming operations. He carries with him th© best wishes' of his Rongotea friends for his future welfare. . The Town Board has at last received the plant for the new dynamo which is to supply the township with electric light. This happy event has been long looked for by the residents, who no longer expect to .be called to book for "colliding with stray cows . on the roads and by-ways, at night. The local Branch of the Druids' Lodge met last evening (Wednesday), with a full -attendance of the mem- ■< hers. One new member was. initiated, and two new candidates were proposed. Bro. Cox, of Palmerston, was present, and rendered great assistance. After all the business was gone through, it was decided to hold a Grand Concert and Dance on the 16th August. : ■'■- • - >
