MR JAS. ALLEN AT MILTON

[PAB PBESB ASSOCIATION.] Milton, June 12. Mr James Allen, member for Bruce, addressed a meeting of hid constituents at Milton to-night. He referred feelingly to the Hon. HallJones' illness and Mr Seddon's death, and dealt at considerable length with the work of the last session. Much of the legislation of the Government was lacking in effectiveness, notwithstanding that it had been in office for 15 years. He was pleased that the financial methods of the Government were to be improved in the direction suggested by critics on the Opposition side of the House. He would like to see the superannuation funds for police, railways, and teachers put on a sound basis. Last year Mr McNab said the Ministry would stand or fall with the Land Bill, and in view of what had happened in the recess one wondered in what form the Bill would be presented to Parliament next session. The total prospective rents from the proposed endowments totalled £184,000, yet Mr Millar had said the annual charge for aid age pen--npe puu 'pin eiqteiuvno 'sj&uois cation was £1,300,000. ' He thought the Ministry had shirked its responsibility by seeking a native land policy from a Royal Commission. After touching on a number of other subjects and dealing with matters which came before the Premiers' Conference, Mr Allen referred to some of the measures likely to come before the House in the coming session. He was accorded a unanimous vote of thanks and continued confidence.
