It is just about time another move was made in the direction of erecting a decent building for postal work at Kimbolton. The Department recognised long ago that it was not desirable that a Government institution should be so poorly housed as the one in question, but the " battle of the sites" gave the opportunity for stopping operations. Surely it is possible for the residents and the Department to cbme to an agreement on that point, and stop what is little less than a public scandal being perpetuated. The apartments the postmistress is compelled to occupy are utterly unfit for a residence, and the accommodation for the public is inadequate to the requirements of the business done. It is not right that such a condition of things should be allowed to continue, and we cannot understand the supineness of the Department in the matter. For fear, | perhaps, that offence might be given to some individual, the interests of the public are disregarded, the proper housing of the mail matter and the telephone bureau is entirely neglected, and a state of things is allowed to exist .which should not be tolerated in a civilised community. In this case the fault' does not lie with. the Minister, but with the permanent head of the Department, and it is about time some one stirred him up with a long pole, and gave him to understand that while the Kimbolton folk are a long suffering community in public matters, like everything else there is a limit to their patience, and that limit has just about been readied.
