An official report dealing with the various industries of the State states that last year's number of establishments was 3838 compared with 3708, while the males employed are 69,888 and females 17,870, as compared with 50,111 males and 16,064 females in 1905. THE LOSS OP THE NORMA. Adelaide, June 4. The Marine Court of Inquiry found Captain Thomas, master of the ship Arden Craig, responsible for the collision with and loss of the Norma on April 21at ? ' and suspended his certificate 1 for nine months and ordered him to pay £50 costs. MISSING GOLD. Melbourne, June 4. Four bars of gold, valued at £1700, have mysteriously disappeared from the Mina. Pascol, a Bendigo buyer, brought the gold after the main building closed. The constable in charge of the police at the Mint lodged it in the Mine safe, to which there are two keys, the constable holding one and the Master pi the Mint the other. The safe was locked when the discovery was made, and there were no signs of tampering with the lock. The constable kept his key in his pocket. Between the time of placing the gold in the safe and the discovery the police guards were changed thrice. Inquiries are progressing. The constable left the key of the Mint safe in the pocket of his vest when he went to bed. The thief must have twice entered the room to get the key and then to replace it. Pascol, in handing over the gold, signed the usual document exonerating the Mint, the police authorities and the officer in charge in the event of the gold being stolen. PREMIERS' CONFERENCE. Brisbane, Wednesday. The Pfemiera' Conference resolved that the present was not an opportune time to alter the system of appointing State Governors. It was also decided that it was not desirable to establish permanent exhibitions of the products of each State. NAVAL OFFICER MISSING. Port Darwin, Wednesday. Engineer-Commander Silk, of the warship Pyramus, forming one of the Governor-General's party visiting the Northern Territory, is missing.
