Feilding Technical School.

I It is very satisfactory to find that ; Feildiug is to have a Technical School | building worthy of the importance of | the classes which have been established here, the Minister of Education 1 having telegraphed on Saturday authorising the acceptance of the lowest ■ tender received for the work. The building, which is to be erected on the section adjoining the railway line, will front Kimbolton road, and will consist of two stories in brick, presenting a handsome api>earance, and a worthy addition to the architecture of the district. It is estimated that it will be ready for occupation about the end of October next, and we feel sure that the possession of such accommodation for the classes, situated as it will be in such a central position, will add considerably to the usefulness of such an institution. It is a fortunate thing for Feilding that application for the grant was—made' •as soon asTTVas, for, from what we. can learn, it is very probable that the conditions for obtaining buildings of tho sort in the future will be made much harder, owing to the enormous number of applications from all over the colony. We are not surprised that it should be so, for there is no doubt that Cabinet had no idea of tho enormous expenditure involved iv the fruition of such a system of technical education as has been contemplated oy the Department. At the same time we firmly believe that the expenditure is just as much justified as that on primary education, and very much more so than a great deal of the money lavished on so-called higher education at the present time. We are not amongst those who believe that too much money can be spent on higher education, .but we do say that if »» just a waste of time "and money to attempt to instil learning of a kind not suited to the nature aud environH ment of the pupil, and that is whaH is being done to a great extent hH our present secondary system.
