CHEESE COMPETITION.

[ [rea press association.] Dunedin, June 3. Keen interest has been taken in the competition for special prizes for cheese donated by the Otago A. and I. Society in conjunction with the Shipping Companies and other supporters. This year the competition was open to Canterbury, Otago and Southland. Prizes were awarded to makers whose factory output for the season gains the highest aggregate number of points according to the certificate issued by Government graders from Ist November, 1906, to 31st March, 1907. The result of this year's competition is as under (maximum points 100) — Waikouaiti D.F., 90, 99 points, £15, 1; Aparima D.F., 90, 95 points, £10, 2; Gore D.F., 90.56 points, "£7, 3; Mataura D.F., 90.54 points, £3, 4; Tulurau D.F. and Edendale D.F., 50.20 points (equal), £3, 5. The condition in the butter competition are very similar to those in the class for the cheese. This year the competition was open to any factory in New Zealand. The result is as under (maximum points 100) : — Makerawa D.F. (Inglewood), 98.02 points, £15, 1; Moa Farmers' D.F. (Inglewood), 93.55 points, £10, 2; Rosewood D.F., 93.40 points, £7, 3; Canterbury Central D.F., 92.42 points, £5, 4; South Canterbury D.F., 92.21 points, £3, 5; Pihama D.F. (Opunake), 91.27 points, 6.
