ST. JOHN'S CHURCH, FEILDING.

The annual meeting of the* parishioners of St. John's Church will be held in the Sunday School building to-night. The Vicar's report states that the Curate, the Rev. W. F. Stont, had been in the parish a little over a year, and, although the results of his labors might not be apparent as Set, the conscientious fulfilment of is duties must eventually bear fruit. The congregations, although larger than last year, still left much room for improvement. There was an increase in the attendance at the Holy Communion. A second Sunday School had been opened at the Lytton street State School, with encouraging results. A first-rate organist, on a salary, had been acquired, and the female members of the choir had been habited in caps and gowns, which made it possible to arrange the choir to better advantage. It had been decided to purchase a small pipe organ. There had been organised a small band of district visitors for the town, which should prove of great assistance to the clergy. Money was urgently needed for pointing the Church buildings, for connecting the Vicarage with the water and sewerage systems, and for extinguishing the debt on the additions to the buildings. • The Churchwardens' report stated the financial position was an unsatisfactory one. There was disclosed a falling oflf in subscriptions and offertories, besides a diminution in the receipts from the envelope system. Some better organisation was required for obtaining new subscriptions. The balance-sheet showed the receipts for the year to be £551 6s, made up as follows : —Subscriptions and seat rents, £96 4s; offertories, £171 16s; country assessments, H years, £143 15s; Curate fund, £133 Is; Sunday School rent, £6 10s. In order to keep to the amount of income, only three-quarters of the stipends of the Vicar and Curate had been paid, and the organist had been treated in the same way. The liabilities, including £65 Vicarage loan, amounted to £179 13s lOd, and against this there were subscriptions and seat rents overdue to the amount of £96, and a Bank balance of £17 10s lid. New officers for the year will be elected, and every member is specially requested to attend. II Ml I ■ ■■•MM W II I -•«"•
