The latest estimate of State parties is — Opposition 27, Ministerial 24, Labour 19, Independent 2. A NEW STEAMER LINE. Sydney, May 21. Tho announcement is made in shipping circles and confirmed by cable that a new lino of steamers will take up the running on the San Francisco route in August. The Andrew-Weir Co. are the promoters. According to present arrangements, the service will be for cargo only, and will be monthly. Vessels will probably call at a New Zealand port, but nothing is yet definitely settled as to the ports. RAIN. Adelaide, May 21. Much needed rain is falling in the agricultural districts. DON'T BELIEVE IT. The Premier and the Leader of ithe Labour Party are disinclined to believe the statement attributed to Mr Deakin in reference to Labour. THE COBAR STRDKE. Sydney, May 21. The mechanics and surface hands have joined the miners' strike at Cobar. Efforts are being made to induce the Lithgow miners to strike in sympathy. RAIN WANTED. Agriculture is retarded in many districts by lack of rain. BROKEN HILL. In Block Ten Mine the profits for the half year are £62,000. M.L.A. IN TROUBLE. Perth, May 21. At the Police Court, Mr Holman, a member of the Assembly, and two ethers were fined on a charge of instigating the strike in connection with the timber trade trouble. A ;stay in the proceedings was granted, v-with a view to appeal.
