[Pbb Pbbss Association.] (Received December 10th, 10.20 a.m.) NEW FIRE EXTINGUISHER. Melbourne, December 10. A remarkable fire occurred at a chemist's shop at Flinders street. The building was gutted, but the flames were automatically extinguished, owing to the bursting of chemical bottles liberating fumes which smothered the flames. The fire brigade was not called upon to use appliances. WHARF LABOURERS' STRIKE. Adelaide, December 10. About five hundred men are affected by the Wharf laborers.' strike at Port Pirie, where the men demand eight hours a day with payment of half-a-crown an hour for ordinary work, and 3s 3d for wheat carrying. Employers offer eight hours and Is 3d an hour after the first two hours, but refuse to pay for "smoke oh." Sydney, December 10. The heat ware continued unabated in the interior. A very high temperature is recorded. Melbourne, December 10. Mr Bent states he is instructed by the Income-Tax Commissioner to demand double duty and interest from the Federal Minister and public servants who in the past refused to pay the Income-Tax, as great expense was incurred in fighting the case,
