The Feilding Star. Oroua & Kiwite Counties Gazette Published Daily, THURSDAY, JANUARY 25, 1906. THE ABATTOIR.
The action of the Borough Council in holding an inquiry into the matter of certain allegations made against the management of the abattoir, is worthy of all praise, and will save a lot of trouble in the future. So much depends on the way in which' animals are slaughtered, and preparod for the market, as regards the public health, that nothing should at any time be neglected to retain public confidence in the quality of the meat supplied. The Council also acted discreetly in paying Mr Sutherland's claim for loss sustained by injury done to a bullock at the abattoir. It is worthy of note that the officials of the abattoir came out of the enquiry very creditably, and the evidence showed that they thoroughly understood their businpflfl.
