A. & P. ASSOCIATION

The A. and P. Association Committee was in receipt of quite a number of valuable suggestions as to the conduct of future shows. The first letter was from Mr R. S. Abraham. He thought it would be advisable to very largely increase the prizes in the horse division, as by that means big competition would undoubtedly be secured. He also pointed out that at present the same horse was allowed to compete in too many classes and suggested alteration in J this direction. Regarding the sheep pavilion, he suggested that if the present building was going to be duplicated the new one should be placed far enough away to allow of a convenient judging ring being placed between the two. There was an alteration in regard to the sheep classes which he considered would have the effect of vastly increasing the popularity of the show, it was the elimination of the rule that " none bat sheep entered or eligible for the Stock Book," should be admitted. He said that in Hawke's Bay particularly there was a very strong feeling against this rule, some breeders stating that they would not exhibit here until it is deleted. He mentioned several prominent breeders who did not exhibit at last show on this account. He was also in a position to say positively that recently that sheep not entered in the Flock Book were entered for the show in spite of tyie rule and ware

awarded prizes against sheep which were in tbe book. The President said he was very glad to see that Mr Abraham still kept up his interest in the working of the Association. There were many suggestions of extreme value in the letter and it was very desirable that a man of his experience should keep before them those things which made for the progress of the Association. Mr Dunk moved that the suggestions should be referred to the several schedule committees. Some considerable discussion then arose, chiefly centring about the suggestion as to the Flock Book. An amendment was then moved by Mr Johnston that Mr Abraham be , thanked for his letter, which should be typed and copies supplied to each member of tbe committee, the matter to come up for consideration at a future meeting. After more discussion the amend > ment was carried. A further amendment was then moved by Mr Wheeler, that Mr Abraham be thanked for his letter, i and also for his services. The ) amendment was carried. Still another amendment was moved by Mr Stuckey, that the letter be referred to tbe incoming committee. This was carried by a substantial majority. The next letter was from Mr F. A. Brewer, also making a few suggestions in reference to certain matters. 1 One was that in classes in the ' draught sections exhibitors at a distance should not be placed at a dis--1 advantage by '"having to provide 1 vehicles to show with their exhibits. ■ He suggested that the words " avail- * able for trial be desired " be added 1 to tbe conditions. He also thought 1 that steps should be taken by tbe Society in tbe direction of seeing that 1 exhibitors should be given more con--1 sideration by the Railway Depart--1 ment than they often do get. 1 Referred to the incoming com--1 mittee without discussion. 1 Another letter came from Mr F. * J. Ellis, who said that he had a sug--1 gestion to make re horse-boxes, which, if carried out, would, in his opinion, ensure larger entries in future. It was that good strong, deep feed boxes be placed in the stalls considerably higher than tbe * flimsy ones now provided, which he considered were a positive danger. r He also suggested the provision of a > strong rack on a level with the feed- > box for the reception of grass or hay, ■ and a heavy bin for corn or chaff in ' v the corner of tbe stall. He thought ' the expenditure would be amply * justified by results. ' The letter was treated similarly to ' the others. — Standard. j
