Telegraph Presß Association* Copyright Wellington, December 8. Mr Edward Cording, for 85 year! in the Government service as a stamp printer, is dead. Deceased was born in Wellington in 1844. A bathing mishap occurred this morning at Lyell Bay. While two young men named Ellis and Lake were bathing in the surf one of them lost his footing and was drawn into deep water. His companion went to his aid, but they were unable to reacli the shore, and both were drowned. On Saturday afternoon a steam pipe at the Electrical Syndicate's works exploded with a report that could be beard a mile away. Thera were three firemen on duty attha time, and one was rather badly scalded about the face. The violence of the explosion caused great excite* ment in the city for a time, ami thousands of people rushed to the scene. J. Holmes, a clerk in the Treasury Department, committed suicide this . morning by hanging himself. Deceased had been in ill-health. An inqust is being held this afternoon. This Day. A man named Edward Pearcey, agerl 68 years, committed suicide at his residence in Barber Street this morning. The deceased, who was w married man with a grown up family, had been rather eccentric for some time past. Auckland, This Day. Willie Gerkene, a single man, aged 28, was killed while felling bush in Pukerimu. He was cutting a tree which split and fell. The stamp struck him above the knee. He diei four hours later. Christchukch, This Day. Henry Vigors, a married man, resident at Belfast, committed suicide yesterday. The body was found in the scrub in the Waimaknri nvcir bed. Vigors suffered from insomnia. George Steele, wharf labourer, who was injured by the fall of a stack of produce on board the Eamona, at Lyttelton, died yesterday in the Lyttelton casual ward from injuries complicated with pneumonia. Hamilton, This Day. A railway surface-man named Taylor was drowned while bathing in the Piako River. He was seized with cramp, and his mate unsuccesti* > fully tried to rescue him.
