AMERICAN HARVESTER COMBINE.

Deputation to the Premier. 1 Tleegraph. Press Association. Copyright Wellington, This Day. A deputation representing the leading implement manufacturing iirm9 in the colony interviewed the Premier yesterday with tho object ; of getting tbe Govornment to assist , in fighting tho American Harvester Trust. Tho deputation represented that if unrostricted competition was allowed the Trust would dnvo the Colonial manufacturer out of the business within four or five years. Legislation was asked for in the direction of preventing tho Trust from operating in the colony. The Premier said ho was aware of the approaching danger, but he did not think a prohibitive duty could be imposed. Ho advised the implement manufacturers to take steps to place the position before the farmers. If farmers recognised that tbe crushing of the local manufacturers would be followed by a great increase in prices as the Trust proceeded to exploit the country, they would bo willing to assist Mew Zealand firms to maintain their business. He would refer the matter to Cabinet. He hoped to bring the Trade Monopoly Preferment Bill to its second reading this session.
