"THE DOTY THAT LIES NEAREST."
TO THE EDITOB. Sib,— l am writing with regard to Dr. Monokton's letter dealing with what he terms "this ewrh^ing liquor question." That it is ofiong duration ia a strong argument in favour of Prohibition. Allow me to contribute my experience. My hus> band met with an accident while bushfelling and received internal injuries. While oonveying him to Palmeraton North Hospital his mates gave him whisky (thereby increasing hemorrhage). He died that night. Dr. Charlton, who attended him. stated taat death was caused by whisky. I have studied this subject since then, and I believe that in 99 out of every 100 cases where stimulants (in reality true narcotics) are resorted to harm, and not good, results. But it is not, comparatively speaking, the death of the body that is so deplorable, but the death of the soul, and I say that it is a matter calling for grave consideration, that we have in our midst, so-called Christian ministers who compromise with the liquor traffic. And I say it in all charity. I am, etc., Widow.
