CHELTENHAM - KIWITEA ATHLETIC SPORTS.
• A well-attended meeting of the officials of the Cheltenham-Kiwitea Sports was) held on Saturday evening, when a large amount of business in connection with the forthcoming meeting on New Year's Day was transacted. The following judges were appointed: — Horse events: Messrs H. Booth and J. G. Oldham. Judges wheel and running : Messrs Ryan, Mitchell, W. Reid, and J. Bruce. Lap-takers : Messrs Renauf and Coventry. Wood chopping: Messrs J. Barrow and J. Shirley. Guessing competition : Messrs F. C. Ross and H. Jaggard. Black-board ; Mr H. Thorns. Numbers : Mr L. Stringer. It was decided to leave the number and disposition of jumps in horse events to Messrs Oldham, Booth, and Pickering, and that in the open jump the horses be required to cover the course twice, the judging to be on the two performances. Red, white, and blue neck ribbons with suitable printiugontLe n will be presented to the first, second, and third horses respectively in all jumping events. It was resolved that any horse that had won a hurdle race should not be eligible to compete in the Maiden. The Secretary was instructed to forward a letter of condolence to Messrs Martin and Patterson, two old and prominent members of the committee, owing to a bereavement in their family. Arrangements for successfully for carrying out the ball in the evening were made, and the meeting then adjourned until the 27th inst.
