PRIMITIVE METHODIST GIFT SALE.
All day yesterday afternoon aod again in the evening, the Assembly Room was well filled when the gift sale in connection with the Primitive Methodist Church was held. The hall was neatly decorated with evergreens while the stills, filled with all classes of goods, showed careful arrangement. The stocks in all cases were large, and notwithstandI in« the steady business which was transacted while the sale was in proj gress, a number of articles were not disposed 01. The various stalls etc., were in charge of the following : — No. 1 : Misses J. Gould and Heald ; No. 2 : Mrs A. J. Gould and Mrs A. Hubner ; No. 8 : Mrs J. C. Thompson, and Mrs Henderson. Produce : Mrs Svendsen and Mrs Freeman ; lollies and cordials : Misses F. Gould and Lundon ; refreshments : Mrs Brock, Misses Pearce, Cokcr and Heald; Christian Endeavour stall; Misses Baker, Bundle, Thompson and Svendsen ; Xmas tree : Miss Lucas. The leading members of the church also took a prominent part in adding to tho success of the function and it is anticipated, as a result of the energy and time given by the ladies and gentlemen in promoting this worthy object, the trustees will be enabled to make a substantial reduction on tho existing debt over tho church property. During the evening a graphophone under tbe direction of Mr J. H. Scott and several items from the Salvation Army Band, created a diversion. Several songs rendered by ladies and gentlemen were responsible for some pleasant moments, in each case Mrs James playing the accompaniments in her usual sympathetic style. The programme was as follows: — Song, Miss James; duet, Miss and Mr James ; song, Mr Hat-ford ; song, Miss Gould. Mrs James terminated the evening with,-- a brilliant pianoforte selection. All of tho' musk'al items weiu well received and ap- | plauded. Tho management desire us to convey their thanks to tho various ladies and gantlemen by whose efforts the success of the undertaking has, in a great measure, been brought about.
