« New difficulties are daily cropping up in connection with the recent local option poll. For instance, a well known lawyer of Dunedin has written to a local paper pointing out that if the publicans succeed in upsetting tbe decision of the people at the recent local option poll by which reduction was carried, they will be placed m a peculiar position. The legal gentleman contends that if the official declaration of reduction is set aside, it will mean that no valid vote of the people will have been taken, and as no license can be granted until such a poll has been held, not a single license could be granted in Dunedin in June next. But, the opinion of the legal gentleman notwithstanding, we venture to think that an Order in Council would set the matter right.
