At the Police Court this morning a young man named Walter Smith was charged with setting fire to a tent tho property of George Inge, at Moturoa, and with inflicting bodily harm oil Inge. A week s remand was granted. Xfc appeared that Inge was sleeping in his tent, which somehow caught fire, burning him severely and he is now in the hospital in a serious condition. GisnoKNi;, This Day. A fire broke out in the engine room of tho auxiliary schooner Waiapu this morning through the benzine igniting. It was promptly suppressed by the dredge John Townley's pumps. Smith has received advice stating that tho Governor has been advised to re-appoint him to the Legislative Council. Mr Smith was fifteen sessions in the Lower House, and seven iv tho Council. Oamaru, This Day. Mr George Jones has received an intimation that the Governor will be advised to ro-appoint him to the Legislative Council.
