Daring last session of the District Court, a libel action was heard in which Mr Thomas, headmaster of the Eltham State School, was plaintiff, and Mr Judd defendant. Judd's boy was punished by the master, and the libel complained of was contained in a lecter written by the defendant to the Eltham paper, in which the punishment was described as brutal. The jury found for the defendant, and the plaintiff moved for a new trial. The application was granted on the ground that the verdict of the jury was against the weight of evidence.
