The parties were married just before last Christmas, the petitioner being only 15 years of age. Hawera, This Day. The Hawera Co-operative Dairy Company, have decided to erect several creameries, including one at To Kaora. A large central factory is also spoken of. Woodville This Day. Great progress is being made with the waterworks. The contractor expects the water will be laid on within six weeks. In view of the fiasco at the fire on Wednesday night an enquiry is to be made into the management of the Fire Brigade. New Plymouth, This Day. The attempts to refloat the Kanieri, which went ashore at the mouth of the Waitara river last Tuesday, have failed. The vessel is safe as long as fine weather lasts. The official enquiry has been postponed. Christchurch, June 8. The remains of Trooper J. H. Treneary, of the Sixth Contingent, who died of congestion of thebrain, was accorded a military funeral this afternoon, and over 600 volunteers and 60 returned troopers were present. The ceremony was witnessed by over 6000 people. Dunedin, June 8. t Conditions were not too favourable for the attempts by McManus, the Australian athlete, to lower records, the track at Carisbrook being heavy. He ran well, but failed in his attempts. He covered 300 yards, paced, in 31 l-sth sees (world's record 30secs) ; 440 yards 50 3-sth sec (world's record 47secs). McManus, in the hop, step and jump, covered 44ft (New Zealand's record 43ft). Auckland, This Day. At the Supreme Court, JohnFrere was sentenced to two years, for negotiating a letter of credit, value £260, issued to J. N. Jones, of Okoia, Wanganui.
