FIRE BRIGADE.
The general monthly meeting of the Feilding Volunteer Fire Brigade was held last evening. Present — Captain Newman, Foreman Lowe, Branchman Hurdle, Fireman R. J. Haybittle, J. Cronin, D. Kitchen, G. Mars ton, J. Jensen, A. Haybittle, A. Watts, H. Marston, T. Bramwell, H. Bishop, J. Humphrey, G. Heald, and Secretary Fitzgerald. CORRE SPONDENCE . From Superintendent B. C. Robbins, petition re Fire Brigade Bill. — Resolved, on the motion of R. Haybittle, that the matter be held over until next meeting of the Brigade. From Hon. Surgeon Charlton, sending in his resignation on account of his eyesight being bad at night. — On the motion of Fireman R. Haybittle, it was resolved that the Secretary interview Dr Charlton, and ask him to reconsider same. From Secretary of the U.F.B.A, subscription list in aid of Fireman Rice, of Dunedin, who had lost his sight. — On the motion of Fireman Kitchen it was resolved to give £1 Is to said subscription. From Lieut. Wilson, notice of motion re appointing Chief Officer for three years. — Captain Newman replied that the notice of motion was out of order. From Fireman R. J. Paul, asking for his clearance from the Brigade, as he had removed to Nelson. — Secretary to forward same, also letter of introduction to the Secretary of the Nelson Brigade. From Fireman B. Potier, resignation, as he had been accepted as a member of the Tenth Contingent. — Resolved, on the motion of Secretary Fitzgerald, that Fireman Potier's name be kept on the books as long as he is serving with the colours. The Secretary reported that there had been two outbreaks of fire in the Borough within the last six weeks, at both of which the Brigade had done good work considering appliances. He also reported having received the following donations to the Brigade Funds : From Mrs Higgin, £5 5s ; Mr J. Cobbe, £5 ; Mr T. Bishop, £2 ; Mr F. Haggitt, £2 2s ; Mr J. Trewin, £1 Is ; Mr T. H. Hooper, £I.—Resolved, on the motion of Fireman R. Haybittle, that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded Mrs Higgin, Messrs Cobbe, Haggitt, Trewin, Bishop, and Hooper for their donation to funds ; also to the Borough Council for their annual grant — viz., £25 to the Brigade. Complimentary ticket was received from 1.0.0. F., M.U., for their annual social. — Resolved, that Fireman Humphrey represent the Brigade at said function. REPORT OF CONFERENCE. Fireman R. Haybittle gave a report of the business done at the late Conference, to which he was a delegate, but owing to the amount of business he was unable to give a detailed report of same. But at the next general meeting of the Brigade he would give a full account of the proceedings of the Conference, by which date he expected an official report would be before the Brigade. — On the motion of the Captain, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Fireman Haybittle for his report, also for a photo of Delegates, which he presented to the Brigade. SERVICE CERXiriCATE. On the motion of Secretary Fitzgerald, Mr F. F. Haggitt was unanimously elected an hon. member of the Feilding Volunteer Fire Brigade. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The following were elected officers for the ensuing year : — Captain Newman, Lieut. Wilson, No. 1 Foreman Low, Engine Foreman Valentine, Secretary and Treasurer H. R. Fitzgerald, all re-elected) ; Auditors, His Worship the Mayor, for Borough Council ; R. F. Haybittle, for Brigade. SMOKE CONCERT. Resolved, on the motion of Fireman Haybittle, that the smoke concert beheld after the annual meeting on 12th May, and that Firemen Humphrey, Kitchen, Cronin, and the mover, in conjunction with the Captain, No. 1 Foreman, and Secretary, be a committee to make the necessary arrangements for same. BALANCE-SHEET. The Secretary was instructed to draw up a balance-sheet, and have same audited before the annual meeting. NEW MEMBER. Mr Stitt was proposed as an active member of the Brigade.
