Show, and at the same time one of the most valuable from an educational standpoint, was .ihat of native and introduced grasses and forage plants, shown by Mr T. W. Kirk, Governrnenfc Biologist, on behalf of the Agricultural Department. In dis« playing the samples, which were all framed in oak and presented a very attractive appearance, the scientific classification had been departed from, and the samples were arranged, for the .convenience of farmers, as fol« lows ;— lntroduced grasses, etc.— Division 1, high-class grasses for mixed pastures, coarse varieties ; 2 ditto, fine varieties; 3, artificial grasses (clovers, trefoils, mehlots. etc.,) , 4, bent grasses, useful in cer* tain mixed pastures, but of comparatively small value ; 5, fodder grasses, of great value, suitable for. special crops: 6, fodder plants, other than grasses, for special crops; 7, useful grasses, not adapted for mixed pas* turage; 8, fodder grasses, for the sides of streams, swamps, etc., ; 9, condimential plants, especially valuable for sheep ; 10, useful grasses for orchards and shady places ; valuable grasses for planting on shifting sand, having only a secondary value' as* fodder plants.
