• Telegraph Press Association Copyright Sydney, This Day. Sir Hector Mac Donald had an enthusiastic reception. The Mayor, on behalf of the citizens, welcomed him at the Town Hall. There was a large gathering, and the Highland Society took a prominent part in the proceedings. The General is a guest of the Lieutenant-Governor. Sir Hector Mac Donald, interviewed, spoke highly of the hospitable treatment of New Zealand's people, who could not do enough to make him remember the trip with satisfaction and thankfulness. He was much impressed with what he saw. New Zealand afforded personal evidence of the loyal feeling which bound the Empire together. Australian and New Zealand men had the making of great soldiers, and by additional concerted training would make the finest soldiers in the Empire.
