Information is to band that the Bruoe County Cou ty Council office was gutted, only a wall standing, also the shops occupied respectively by a butcher and a chemist were totally destroyed. The Victoria office have a policy of £500 on the County County Chambers. It is reported that the wife of the manager of the Hillside Workshops drew Khaki in one of Tattersalf's sweeps on the Melbourne Cup, and nets £2000. Timaru, November 14. The second day of the Timaru show was held to-day and there was a large attendance, but a bitterly cold wind was blowing, making matters very unpleasant. Horses, light and draught, were a feature of the show. The imported horse Olydebank took Ist and champion in draughts, D. Tyne's Experience got Ist in carriage horses, and F. W. Freeman's Conquerer was awarded Ist and champion in thoroughbreds. The attendance of the show exceeded past years, despite the cold gale. Horses made an excellent show. Wellington, November 15. The rating on the unimproved valuo was carried at yesterday's poll by 1261 to 591. There was a majority at every booth. About a third of those en the roll voted. Auckland, November 15. The City Council has decided to pave Queen street with asphalt. The en* gineer, after visiting Napier and Wellington, reported in favour and was sup, ported by Prof essor Warren, of Sjdney, and MrFergusson, engineer of the Wellington Harbour Board. The supporters of wood blocking strongly opposed the proposal, but a contract was let for £27,492. Christchurch, This Day. One of the sharpest shocks of earthquake felt here for many yeftrs was experienced at 7.47 a.m., lasting for over half a minute. It has been decided that the championship held under the auspices of the Association of Caledonian Societies will be competed for at the sports of the Oamaru Caledonian Society, which takes place on the Ist and 2nd of January, 1902, and the sum of £400 has been voted for prize money. Westport, This Day. Walter Livesy, aged 26 years, fireman on the Kaitawa, was drowned this morning from the steamer. There was a heavy and prolonged earthquake at 7.50 a.m.
