Mr W. B. Giesen wants returned a couple of jars of preserved peaches which went astray on Friday night from the Horticultural Show. Mr Ellery Gilbert, piano Inner, is now in Feilding and is stayiug at Hastie's Hotel. Mr Gilbert will remain in the district for about ten days. Mr W. Christmas is again near, and with it the season for presents. The C.T.C. stores draw special attention to their stock of electroplate, glass, and chinaware. This enterprising firm import their electroplate- ware direct from Sheffield, and are already noted for excellency of quality, beautiful new designs, aud low prices. The Southland News reports that a pesjb somewhat similar to the oyster scale is attacking the flax plant. It is about the same shape and siise as the oyster scale, only white instead of a brownish color, and seems. quite as prolific. Two blades of flax, recently on view in Invercargill, were fairly smothered from the root halfway up the blade. The scale evidently feeds on the juices, as both leaves were unusually dry, and the yellow color intermixed with the bright green, showed that the life of the plant was pretty well sapped away. .
