Correspondence. FEILDING SPORTS HANDICAPS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sib, — In your paper of to night I note the handicaps for the Feilding Boxing Day sports. Permit n?e to I make a few remarks on some of the different handicaps, viz. : — Sheffield Handicap : A. C. Foster with 8 yards (who has started seven or eight times at different meetings and has one win), Wixcey (the winner of the Ladies' Bracelet here last year) with 10 yards, and J. Linton (winner of two or three events) 10 yards. Now, why should competitors without performances give winners starts. The Manchester Handicap : A. E. Foster, with 60yds, giving Urquhart and G. Page 10yds. Urquhart ran second here in the same race last year, and Page has large performances which I could furnish if required, You will see in the Sheffield Handicap that Pike is giving Watts lyd, and in the 440-yards Handicap Watts is giving Pike 13yds. How does this happen, for Watts has not a 440 yds performance ? And why does Watts give Jarrett 16yds in both hurdle events) And not only that, Mr Copeland knows that Dick Jarrett is one of the best all-round men in Now Zealand, .ferhaps the handicapper can explain the above. Thanking you^ in anticipation. I am, &c, An Old Athlete. Feilding, 17th Dec, 1896.
