♦ (Per Press Association.) Christchurch, Oct. 10. At the inquest on Chas. Amyes, a verdict of accidental death was returned. A special meeting of the New Zealand Poultry Association was held tonight. Seventeen delegates were present. Letters were received from the Southland and Dunedin Clubs objecting to challenge trophies in place of the annual medals. A resolution was carried that it is advisable in the best interests of the Association to place Dunedin in the same position as Christchurch and Wellington, and that at the forthcoming championship show medals be given instead of trophies. Wellington. Oct. 10. James C. Wilkin, of Christchurch, has resigned his appointment as Justice of the Peace. Benjamin Wayte has been gazetted Inspector and grader under the Dairy Factories Act, 1894. The final for the championship of the New Zealand Golf Tournament was played at the Hutt this afternoon between Dr Gossett and Mr Wilde, both of Christchurch, the former won five up and three to play. The handicap match will be finished in the forenoon, and in the afternoon the inter-Island match will be played. Auckland, Oct. 10. The feature of to«day's sharemarket was a sharp rise in Bunker's Hill, and shares in the Welcome Find, adjacent, went up ia sympathy. The former miue struck a leader aud got specimens. Masterton, October 10. Mr Richard Mathews, a very old man, who has been 22 years in the colony, is dead at the age of 80. The deceased who was an Excise officer in Ireland, and in receipt ot a pension, leaves a family of 11 children and 60 grandchildren. Carteeton, Oct. 10. Tbe Dalefield Dairy Factory caught fire last night from the engine shed, and was with' difficulty saved by neighbors. It is reportedJthat the roof has also been damaged -by/ the gale, which was exceptionally heavy. *■"_.' .
