An ordinary sitting oi' the Feilding S.M. Court will beheld on Friday. Business will commence at 9 a.m. The funeral of the late Henry McAlislcr will take place to-morrow afteroon, leaving his late residence at 2 o'clock. We have to acknowledge receipt of a copy of the Annual Report and Statistics of the National Dairy Association of New Zealand. Notice is given to-day that Mr W. B. Lloyd has been admitted as a partner in the firm of Hayne and Co., which will iv future conduct business under the title of Hayne and Lloyd. Licutenaut Halcombe, who is leaving shortly for America, has forwarded to Captain Kirton several very handsome en "ravings to be framed and hung iv the new drill hall of the Manchester Rifles. The usual weekly meeting of the 1.0. G.T. Lodge was held in the Foresters' Hall last eveuing, when there wai a large attendance aud a large amount of business was transacted. One new member was initiated. The decision of the referee in the late chess contest between the Bulls and Palmerston Clubs has been received and the match has resulted in favor of the Bulls Club, who won four oufc-of the six games. For Bulls Messrs Gifford, Jones, Clark, and Grace wore the victors, aud for the Palmerston Club Messrs McCrae and Hankins. The proposed railway between Leviu aud Grcatford, by way of Foxtou, will be carried through sooner than anticipated, it is thought. The delay has been owing to the time spent in financing matters. The money has now been found, we hear on good authority, and thjpse identified witli the scheme will lose no time in pushing it forward. — Manawatu Farmer. An advertisement appears in another column to-day from the new firm of Messrs Hayne and Lloyd seed and produce merchants and commission agents, of Fcrgusson street. Attention is drawn iv the advertisement to the various lines on sale, comprising oats, chaff, potatoes, wheat, etc. They are agents for Shaw, Saville and Albion Shipping Company, Royal Exchange Fire Insurance Cornpsiiy in addition to other agencies. An extraordinary incident took place in the Queen's Bench Division, London, a few clays ago. Justice Wills on a Saturday tried an interpleader issue and gave judgment for defendants. On the following Tuesday he had the parties before him, and stated that he was ill and unfit to be on the Bench on Saturday, and did not quite appreciate a point made for the plaintiffs. On subsequent consideration he had come to the conclusion that he must reverse his former decision and enter judgment for the plaintiffs. The Feilding Debating Sooiety met in Mr Bray's office last evening, there being a fair attendance. The Rey. lunes Jones occupied the chair. The election of officers resulted as follows ;— President, Mr F, V, Lethbridge ; vice-presi-dents, Rev Innes Jones, Messrs J. Cobbe, and C. Bray (senr.) ; secretary and treasurer, Mr S. Andrews ; committee, Messrs J. H. Stevens, T. Watson, A. G. Carty and J. Cooinbe. The routine business having been transacted Mr T. Watson read a paper entitled " The Anglo Saxon under the Southern Cross ; some climatic effects and comparisons." The paper introduced a new theory of the effects of magnetism and electricity on animal and human life, Mr Watson offering an opinion (supported by observation) that the conditions in favor of life were less in the Southern than Northern hemispheres, and gradually diminished towards the south. The production of the theory indicated deep thought and research and the members present complimented Mr Watson for ib, and a vote of thanks was accorded to him at the conclusion. The subject for debate at the next meeting, on June 18fch. will be "Is the revolt of the daughters justifiable." Mr W, Gicsen will lead in the affirmative and Mr Carfcy in the negative. The following debate (on July 2nd; will be on the question : — "ls co-oper-ation more dcsirablo than competition in the distribution of oar national produce." This subject will embrace Mr J. D. Nathan's scheme for improving the j frozen meat industry, but will not be ; confined to it.

Mr W. A. Clarke, the Montana mine i owner, is building a million-dollar palace hi New York. His fortune is estimated at from £4,000,000 to iK.000,000.
