The Passion Play.
The Assembly Rooms were crowded last evening', the attraction being a lecture upon the " Passion Play " of Oberammagau of ]800, which was illustrated by fJoe lime light views. Ihe discourse was delivered by that, I'amzms dramatist Mr Walter Uentley, who described the origin, history and i development of the Oberamma^au performances in the Bavarian village. The pictures were, taken from leading- j actors in the costumes of the charac- | ters they represented and, also, of the prircipal episodes of the play, which represent scenes during t lie life and crucifixion of Christ. It is a sacred performance and is treated in a particularly impressive manner. At suitable intervals Miss M. Best sang i " Lop Kameaux," " Calvary," and "The Holy Cily." Her sin»;injr of those sacred pieces wa3 much admired as her enunciation is particularly I good.
