The Premier went through to Patea by the mid-day train to-day. Mr J. G. Wilson, M.H.R., will address his constituents at Campbelltown at 7.30 this evening. The Dunedin Star is to be floated into a limited Liability Company with a capital of £25,000. It is announced that there will be a meeting of the local Court of Foresters to-morrow evening, at 8 o'clock. A special meeting of the Borough Council will be held to-morrow evening to confirm the burgess list. We have to acknowledge receipt of the annual report of the Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Society for 1895. We (Manawatu Times) regret to learn that Mr Joseph Bennett, of Otahuao, near Masterton, died on Saturday. Deceased who was a brother of Mr H. Bennett, of Awahuri, was a well-known and highly esteemed settler in the Wairarapa, where he had resided for many years. A football match will be played on the Oval at Feilding on Saturday afternoon next between Feilding and Pohangina teams. Those who play for Pobangina will be picked from the following, viz : — Johnston, Blake, Parish, Mathie, W. Shannon, Wilson, McNie, Petersen, Payne, Clarke, Litfclejohn, Denton (2), Lucas (2), Shadbolfc, Paterson, XJrwin, Watson. Knight, Peddie and Adsett (2). Tolly, claim £4 Is lOd for rates on a section at Birmingham was beard. Mr Hankins appeared for the Council. Defendant said be did not owe the full amount of the rates sued for. He was willing to pay rates for the section from July, 1891, in which month be took possesssion of the land. He applied for the land iv December, 1893, but be did not enter into possession until July 1594 because the boundaries were not denned. — Mr Hankins said under these circumstances some concession be made to Mr Tolly, and he would only ask for judgment for rates from last March, when the rate was struck. He asked for an adjournment to enable him to consult Clerk of the County Council. He did not desire Mr Tolly's attendance at the Court when the case again came on for bearing.—His Worship granted the adjournment, and informed defendant that be would allow him expenses when judgment was given. — Standard.
