The iron poles for the telephone to Apiti arrived in Feilding this morning. Mr Davidson, Assistant-Inspector of the Colonial Bank, was a visitor to Feildiug to-day. Mr Carthew's usual monthly case of books and English periodicals arrived this morning. Mr J. G. Wilson, M.H.R., will address the electors at Sausou on Monday loth, and at Campbclltown on Tuesday. Mr E. Ilcald was the successful tenderer for the erection of a dwelling house at Colyton, of which Mr James is the architect. The bankruptcy of Bridget Uiillard, of WaitunaWest, i.s notified. A meeting of creditors will be held iv the Feilding Court House, on Friday the l'Jth iust. A very interesting panorama entertainment is to be given in the Kiwitea Hall to-morrow evening , and those who attend will doubtless thoroughly enjoy themselves. Yesterday Mr Axup negotiated the lease of Mrs Oliver's Empire Hotel to Mr Corby, who will arrive in Feildiug from Australia at an early date. Possession will be given in June. The following nominations have been received for the bicycle road race to be held on the luth instant :— N. Bray, Gifkius, Gappcr, Watson, Way, Feck and Trevcua. There was a good attendance of members of the Feilding Fire Brigade at the annual meeting held last evening. A report of the proceedings will appear in to-morrow's issue. Residents in the Awahuri district should make a point of attending the concert which is to bo given there this evening in aid of the school funds. Several talented amateurs are to take part, and the performance will undoubtedly be a very enjoyable one. A cordial invitation is given by the management of the Primitive Methodist Mutual Improvement Society, to those interested in the welfare of the rising generation to attend the meeting tonight in the Primitive Methodist Church. The proceedings will be commenced by Mr T. Watson who will give an address. The meeting which is to be held in the Assembly Rooms to-morrow afternoon at the conclusion of Mr C. Carr's stock sale for the purpose of considering Mr D. J. Nathan's scheme iv connection with the frozen meat trade will be a very important one, and every farmer and settler in the district should endeavour to be present. The Marton Advocate reports that a serious native squabble, resulting in a '• free light," took place at Parewanui on Friday last, iv which a number of the belligerents, headed by Wirihana Hunia and Mohi Ropiha, fought on horseback with sticks, several being severely knocked about. The trouble arose over training matters on the Parewanui racecourse. The squabble is likely to end in a law suit. The Rev T. R. Richards, of Birmingham, leaves for Sydney to-morrow where he will spend a well-earned holiday. Pic will return in time to resume his duties in the Kiwitea circuit on the first Sunday in June. The Rev J. Richards, will not, as at first intended, relieve his brother in the circuit during the latter's absence, he having been appointed to a position in the Three Kings College, Auckland, and will leave for North on Friday. The Melbourne Argus fails to see what advantages will accrue from Mr Ward's conversion scheme except that the prospects of future borrowing may be improved. In the first place, no holder of existing New Zealand stocks can be compelled to convert. In the second, no 1 holder would dream of converting on any other terms but those which would give him the same effective rate of interest as at present.
