(Per Press Association! Auckland, May 8. D. 13. Cruickshank, chairman of the Northern Steamship Company, left business to night in usual health and died suddenly at his residence, Uemuera. Patrick Win. Ryan, licensee of the Empire Hotel, was fined £2 and i' 3 costs for alleged ill-treatment of a dog. Wellington, May 8. The Stock Depsirtment has been in structed to issue circulars intimating that, in the event of a suitable shipment of horses being mude, and that any loss accruing on sales at Home, the Government will be prepared to defray half the cost of freight. The classes recommended are heavy draughts, bus horses and hunters. H.uvkua, May 8. Speaking at Eltham lust night, Mr Ilutchinson referred to the Ministerial visits to Parihaka and said he was assured the visit of the Minister of Labor to Paribaka had been used by Te Whiti and his followers as evidence of a desire on the part of the Government of the Queen to recognise the independence of Te Whiti. For a Minister of the Crown to do what appeared to be pa\ ing Court to Te Whiti at Parihaka was a great mistake. If Te Whiti had any grievance, let him go to the Minister at Wellington.
