Ladies and Gentlemen — AT the urgent solicitation of representatives from various sections of the community, I have consented to beconib a candidate for the representation of this district in Parliament. I am quiet free from party bias, and am consequently prepared to consider every question upon its merits. I submit for your information the following planks in my platform, and will take an early opportunity of explaining my views more fully by means of public meetings : — 1. The Abolition of Party Government, which must of necessity be one-sided, for a form of Government whereby purity of administration shall be secured. 2. Railways. — In the event of the new Parliament beiug able to effect this very necessary, righteous, and much desired change in the form of Government, I would favor our railways being managed by the Executive of the House, in which case they would be under the control of the people ; otherwise the retention of the present system of management by a non-political Board. 3. Liquor Laws.— The fullest control to be placed in the hands of the people by the direct vote, without compensation. The repeal of " The Alcoholic Liquor/. Sale and Control, Act 1893." ' 4. Customs. — The reduction of the duties on the necessaries of life, so as to relieve the burden of taxation on the working classes. 5. A heavy duty on very large legacies, as a check upon the too great accumulation of property in the bauds of individuals. G. The retention of the present system of national education, with some necessary improvements in administration. 7. Land — The present system with certain modifications, including the abolition of Ballot, with a view to securing bona fide Settlemeut as against speculative purchases. Elective Land Boards. 8. The supporting of all legislation which will assist the settlers in country districts and promote their interests'. 9. Arbitration, or peace-making, in all matters affecting the industries of the people, so as to prevent strikes by the workers and lock outs by the employers. 10. Thorough sanitary inspection of workshops, factories, and mines. 11. Supporting measures to help forward the cause of social purity. 12. Taxation— The present form to be maintained. All improvements to be exempted from general and local taxation. 13. Charitable aid and hospitals to be provided for by endowment of lands. 14. The improvement of the present bankruptcy laws by making their provisions more stringent. 15. The adoption of intercolonial freetrade. I am, Ladies and Gentlemen, Obediently yours, J. P. LEARY. 27th October, 1893. Tj%»R SALE— Tbat valuable doubleJj frontage Building Site adjoining Feilding Stab Office. Price, £12 10s per foot. For terms, &c , apply Stab Office.
