An Excited Synod.
THE MORALITY_OF DUNEDIN. (PBB PBBBS ASSOCIATION.] Donbdin, November 6. At the Presbyterian Synod there was a rather angry discussion concerning commercial morally on the recent deliverance regarding the state of religion. Mr E. B. Cargill strongly resented the charges of dishonesty which had been made ngainst farmers and merchants, and said there was no foundation for them. The Eer J. Gibb said fchsre were business men whose word would be as good as their bond, but there were those who adnutted it was hard to li?e up to the Sermon on the Mount and be honest. Mr Cargill : "It is false ! an unscrupulous falsehood!" The Jier J, Gibb claimed the Moderator's protection. Mr Cargill said he claimed protection. Was the whole community to be traduced in this way ? The thing was utterably false. Mr Oargill was an honest man, and lie thanked God there were others in his congregation; but with few exceptions business men would tell them it was extremely difficult to be scrupulously honest. Mr Cargill said he was astonished at such claptrap being applauded. Ihe Moderator said they should discuss the matter calmly. Mr Cargill said he would leare the Synod. He could not sit and hear a parcel of people applauding the things they were doing. Mr Keith RaWsaj also objected to the dojircrance. m
