St. Mary's Church, Ashurst

The annual general meeting of j parishioners was held in the Churchroom on Wednesday, July 18th, the usual Wednesday evening service taking place first, at which the Rev. Mr Young preached a good sermon on " God so loved tho World," Imme- j diafeely after the service the general meeting took place, the Rev. Mr Deverisfa presiding. The balancesheet was read by the Secretary. During the first year since the arrival of a .curate, regular morning and evening services have been held at Asharst, aid also an evening service during the week. Services have also been held regularly at Bunny thorpe and Pobnnguia, and occasional ones at the Spur and Midland roads schoolrooms. All the services havo been well attended. The balance sheet, for a period of elevon months, showed : Receipts, L 43 8s Id; expenditure, L3R 12s Id; cash in band, L 4 16s. Tho assessment of the Ashurst district is Ll5O per annum, and the amount collected won LM9 19s. Thero is a sum of L 27 owiog to the Diocesan Trustees, but it will be paid by the end of the month. Tbo following officers were elected :— Vestrymen, Messrs J. Craven, E. Potts, E. Davi*, S. Ingram, J. Whibley, F. W. Whibley, J. Hansom, aud 11. Holland; people's warden, Mr J. Craven ; curate's warden, Mr F. W. Whibley; auditors, Messrs B. J. Whibley and J. Maunder. Mr A. H. Whibley was vote I LlO a year aa ergaoist. Mr F. W. Whibley was olected to represent the district at the meeting of the Synod in Wellington.
