The Late Mr Mellish
The inquest on the body of Mr W E. Mellish at Palmerston on Thursday last resulted in a verdict of accidental death being returned by the jury. Particulars to hand show that Mr Mellish, after attending Jo his hpusehold duties, went into an adjoining paddock with a breechloading gun to shoot a cat. Shortly afterwards, on hearing. the report of the gun, Mrs Mellish and the servant went outside and found deceased lying down on the ground shot in the side just above the liip- He" lived but a few minutes and expired in ' his wife's arms. It appears that Mr Mellish was stepping over some tangled wire, the loose end of which it is thought got caught in the trigger and , discharged the gun. Deceased was only ' married on the 26th of June last.
