THE WOOL MARKETS. (per press association.) Melbodene. Febuaty 20. At the wool sales to-day there was a brisk competition. Good qualities are firm and inferior sorts are weak. American representatives are mak ug large purchases, while the English are acting in reseiv- Merino to good merino brought Bj-d to 1(M per Ib ; ordinary old water washed merino, Is 2d to Is 2£d ; good scoured merino, Is 4d to 3- 4i (Jhktstchurch. February 20 Tlie fifth series of wool sales was held to-day, nnd as might, have been rxpecii'd at the close of the setson the catalogues presented no special features, excepting one or two merino clips. A crots tired meJiura lot included wool from the Chatham Islands, which shown .etierai improvement. Merino showed a sliglil advance oa firmer raes.
