; IMPOETANT PEOPOSALS; The Hon. Mr McKenpie wasdepntationised at PaJinerston on Tuesday last, and in reply to questions concerning thedeferred payment system, said : — "lt was " his^intention, if possible, to do away with. ' the deferred-payment, system altogether, ■ and continue the perpetual lease and cash, systems. He clearly thought that theperpetual lease was the best system." ■> Mr Gatton : " With or without the option of purchase ?" i Mr McKenzie: "Without the- option, of purchase. It is only in that direction I would amend these conditions." Mr McKenzie went on to point out that agreat many people took up land under the perpetual lease system, obtained Crowr* grants, and sold it to the adjoining largelandowners, and so created large .estates ~ He held that the perpetual lease system •_ should only be carried on without 'th& ' ' option of purchase.— Times. (PKH UNITED PRKS* ASSOCIATION). Woodville, This Day. The Hon. J. McKeuzie, Minister of Lands, arrived here yesterday. A deputation waited on Mr McKenzie, drawing his attention to the absurdly insufficient railway service to be brought into force by the Commissioners; also, to the desirability of opening up certain Crown Lands at Maharahara; to opening of roads to connect the district with theTautane and Mangahao districts. In reference to the railway arrangements Mr McKenzie expressed surprise at their inefficiency, and said although he had no. power he would give the Commissioners, his opinion about the matter. He also promised to enquire into the other matters, and give this, his attention.
