« (per united press association.) Auckland, January 10. The Hon. Mr Richardson arrived last night, having mrde a complete tour of the northern districts, including Village Settlements. The Special settlers will require advances and road works from Government for another two years before they can live on the returns from the land. Dunkdin, This Day. Joseph Valentine is charged at the Supreme Court to-day with infantcide of the illegtimate child of Jane Porter, of which he was the father. New Plymouth January 9. The (ioyernor arrived from Auckland this morning and left by special train for the south at 11 o'clock. He goes as far as Overton and visits Mr Arkwright stay- , ing there till night, when he proceeds to Wellington. Gisbobne, January 9. Mr Hislop, buyer for the North British Freezing Co., has during past few weeks, purchased 20,000 fat sheep in the Gisborne district. The sheep will be driven overland to Napier and there frozen. Mobs sent from here suffered little loss in weight, the feed being remarkably good on the road. A lar&e parcel of Poverty Bay grass seed has been purchased through the Loan and Mercantile Agency at 4s 6d per bushel, and the market has an upward tendency. Wanganui, January 9. A conversazione by the parishioners of Christ's Church took place to night to welcome the Bey J. W. Chapman, the new assistant curate. There was a fair uttendnnco, and a cordial welcome was accorded to the rev gentleman. Chkistchwbch, Jnnnary 9. Tho nomination for the Lincoln seat took place to-vfay at Kirwee. The attondance was small. Messrs Snunders and Olhvior were nominated. The show of hands was in favour of the former.
