(per united press association.) Wellington This Day. The Gear Meat Company pay a dividend of ten per cent. The proposal to hold a ball in honor of the visit of Admiral Fairfax and squadron has been abandoned. It has been decided instead to entertain the Admiral and officers at lunch on board the steamer Tainui, which is expected in port at the time of the Admiral's arrival here. Private letters received from Sir Julius Yogel announce his return to the colony in February. Auckland, This Day. The Governor left for Wellington this morning. When the mail steamer left Honolulu H.M.S. Hyacinth had brought the shipwrecked crews of the German ship Her- i mann and the Sweedish barque Virgo. They were both wrecked at Maldon Island, where they had been loading guano, on November 27. The captain, mate, and four men of the Virgo were drowned by a boat upsetting in the surf. Gbeymouth Thw day. Timothy Dennis, aged 60, to-day fell over a precipice on the Ohaur» River, sixty feet deep, and was killed instantly The body was terribly crushed.
