At a public meetiner held last -night in the Opera House, of ihpse favorable to the principle of protection in connection with the fiseafe;soli§y of the colony, about 600 persons" -if ere present. Mr T. K. Macdonuld occupied the chair. •- Mr Bathtnce removed" the**"* first resolution as follows :— " That ; this society is hereby, 'constituted under the name of the New Zealand Industrial Protection Association^the object of the society to be the protection and' developement alike of the natural resources of the colony, and of its manufactures and industries by suoh readjustment of the tariff as will tend to thelarge increase of all." Mr Luke, iron-founder, seconded the motion which was carried unanimously. j A further resolution was carried, { " That the cbmn>ittee appoin^^ at the recent meeting -to c^nsiaer "too re-ad-justment of the tariff should meet on' ( Friday next." Among the speakers i last night were the Hon. J. Ballance, I T. Bracken, M.H.B.s, and Messrs Dransfield, Luke, Robertson, and. 1 Moran.
