OUR WELLINGTON LETT KB. (fbom oub owjr cobbeshmjdent.) "Wki r.iXGTON-. Monday Ni^ht. My; statement that the Government Mould only limvc a majority of four was eniTPpf. fm <'tv>v litiring crppt in on the " }):iirs,' r but the general result is not Jiffected in any way. There was some talk to-day of Sir G< oige Grey mteudin<r to move a vote of u-anfcof confidence, and that lie expects to eractly divide the ]f ouse _i7 for and 47 against. I have not much fiitb. in the truth of this | rumor. If Sir George had a following of 47, we would hear more about it very suddenly. Ihe real strength of the Government is 49, and the Opposition 45, so the Government is quite sa r e forikis. session. Mr .Moateomery wi U k ftTe to settle back into his old position of being a very respectable member of the Mouse. As a leader he is a failure. There wa» some trouble in the House, and ~MV Speaker had t pull up tile member for Hokitika sharply for saying hard thm.srs: of Mr ' Pish. Itt fact, Mr Fish said he believed Mr Fitzgerald was ia such a passion that he would have struck him %\ii for the Speaker calling him to order.' But Mr , Fitzgerald assured Mr Fish that he had no intention of itriking him. The fact is, that Mr Fish had raised the anger of several members by bis gros3 personal attacks, and probably his own conscience (if he hai , such a thing), told him what he ought to expect. Mr AlTwrightrsaid he met Mr Joyc* in the lobby, and' the' hon member toldiiim he had not paired. Mr Joyce then said that Mr said '* the thing tnat wai. t npt," but thi^ Speaker made him retract the expression.. All very pretty and so to bedii .-, . i- . ; ,; , ■
