ACTIVITIES AT AWHITU

That there is very real interest in re-afforestation and tree planting for shelter in the Awhitu district was apparent at a well attended meeting of residents held in the public hall on Tuesday evening and addressed by Mr Portman, of Pokeno, a member of the re-afforestation committee, Franklin Farmers’ Union, Mr Reid, Public Works Department, and Mr A. C. Bettany, county engineer. Planting and care of suitable varieties, co-operative planting and processing of timber, and progress of the regional survey of the area, were discussed at length.

A committee comprising Messrs W. Champion (MnniHmu Heads!, I. M. Rutherford (Awhitu Central), R. Brown (Graham’s Beach), M. J. Hatton (Awhitu) and D. McPike (Po"olU was formed to further operations in the area.
