EXHIBITS OF HIGH QUALITY
THE JUDGES’ AWARDS
The Auckland District Pig Council’s bacon championship was finalised yesterday when tiie judging look place at the Kiwi Bacon Company’s Auckland factory. A field day was also held in conjunction with Hie judging, more than 70 being present. The curer and the judges were unanimous in 1 heir opinion that the quality of Ihe 57 pigs judged was of a very high standard. 1 lie whole line being of uniform grade. Results are: —
Mr V. S. Cope (Whitford), Largo White-Berkshire cross sow, 184 points (possible 205), first. The winner takes the championship rose howl and £lO cash.
Mr O. A. Sundberg (e/o. Mr T. Morgan. Pukekohe East), purebred Large White barrow, 193 points, second, and wins £7. Mr 11. M. Morrison (Whitford) with pig from the same litter as the winning entry, Air B. R. Wright (Pukekohe East), Berk-shire-Large White cross, and Air Arthur Woolsey (Patumahoo), Tam-worth-Berkshire cross), al! 181 points (equal) third. A special prize of £5 for whey fed pig was won by AH' G. L. Tomkins (Aka Aka), a Berkshire-Tamworlh cross, with 169 points. Tiie £5 cash prize for most points for carcase goes to Air A. Woolsey’s (P atuma ho e) (T amworlh- Tani wo r 11 1 - Berkshire) sow. The judge was Air Jack Anderson, of tiie Westfield Freezing Company, who commented favourably on the entries and also demonstrated the judging system employed, at the field day. He answered several questions. He was assisted by Air H. Al. Pierson, of the Department of Agriculture, and Air Alex Longwill, supervisor of I lie Auckland District Pig Council.
