OBITUARY

MISS JESSIE RfIUNRO WELL-KNOWN GLEVEDON GIRL A "FINE EXAMPLE OF SERVICE The sudden and untimely death recently of Miss Jessie Munro, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs C. C. Munro, of Clevedon,.cast a gloom over the Clevedon district because Miss Munro was one of those young ladies a district can ill afford to lose. She was, through her personality and ability a born organiser and at an early age moved from the juvenile to the more serious activities of the district where she soon found scope for her abilities. If Miss Munro relinquished one duty it was always to take up some * other social activity where practical organisation was required. She was associated with every organisation in the district: was secretary of the Tennis Club; on the executive of the Women’s Division, Patriotic Committee, Horticultural Society, Tennis Club Social Committee and a director of the firm of Hawthorn and Munro. Her character and ability were such that she was there. ' As well as being on the Provincial Council of the- Women’s Division, Miss Munro was secretary of the Housekeeping Division of the Waitemata Provincial Council, an organisation with some 40 branches and 12 housekeepers. This position Miss Munro held, with outstanding ability, for five' years; indeed, until the outbreak of war, when she relinquished these duties to occupy the seat vacated by her brother on active service, on the directorate of Hawthorn and Munro. Further Miss Munro was keenly interested in sport. She was an enthusiastic member of the Clevedon Tennis Club and wore Auckland hockey representative colours on several occasions. - Besides being deeply interested in the social welfare of the district Miss Munro found time for reading and her church. She was district librarian for many years and a staunch member of tire Presbyterian. Church, being in the choir and superintendent of the Sunday School.

The -whole district feels most keenly the misfortune it has sustained and offers its deepest sympathy to Mr and Mrs C. C. Munro and family in their sad and irreparable loss.
